Filmmaker Shelley Barry reflected on her experiences as an artist with a physical impairment and used her film extracts that included a series of films: Whole–A Trinity of Being, a documentary recounting survival of the ‘taxi wars'; Inclinations, about a writer struggling to write erotica dealing with her personal life; Where are my heels? which was a tribute to the spirit of a young girl child; and Str/ol, about a wheelchair user navigating the streets of Manhattan.
About Shelley Barry
Born and raised in the Eastern Cape, South Africa, Barry completed her undergraduate studies at the Universities of Cape Town and the Western Cape. She has worked extensively as a disability rights and anti-gun activist following a shooting in the taxi wars of 1996 that resulted in her being confined to a wheelchair. She has held positions as the Media Manager in the Office on the Status of Disabled Persons in the Presidency and as the National Parliamentary Policy Coordinator for Disabled People South Africa.
