TIES deals with visible and invisible power and powerlessness. Maponya based her research on her ties to the mining industry and on the past and present narratives of the inhabitants of Bapong, North West Province. The work draws attention to the economic and socio-political exploitation by the local and international mining industry, corruption, low wages, land expropriation and environmental destruction

About Angelinah Maponya

Born in Johannesburg, Angelinah Maponya now lives in Cape Town where they are completing an MA in International Dual Dramaturgy with the Universities of Amsterdam and Cape Town. A visual storyteller and dramaturgically-trained performer, Angelinah Maponya’s practice engages with interdisciplinarity in live performance. They are now interested in the dramaturgical process of theatre-making through research.
