“rusting diamond”

ICA Live Art Festival 2017

This immersive experience took audiences into the hidden world of decaying Lady San Lorenzo – a rusting, deep-sea, diamond-mining vessel at the port of Cape Town. The ship had provided shelter to frightened Ghanaian immigrants who were too afraid to venture out because of xenophobia and the illegality of their status.Rusting Diamond reflects on the spatiality of abandonment, migrants, and globalisation by presenting a set of ‘counter-images’ of global capitalism.
