Fragments of Encounters was a performance-installation-based research project composed of Blum's archive of audio-recorded material of ordinary conversations with an array of people as well as her memories. The archive assumes a dual role both as a mnemonic instrument and an atlas which plots her own encounters. It also recreates a mixture of cultures, identities, and geographies that need to be decoded and interpreted to create/impose meaning.
About Nomi Blum
Nomi Blum is a Romanian interdisciplinary artist and migrant working mainly with archival material and objects: a collection of everyday conversations with diverse people that she recorded and archived over time. Her practice spans performance, time-based media, text and participatory approaches to explore deliberately chaotic, unpredictable, and undisciplined formats/modes of storytelling, where memory and meaning can be negotiated.
